Co-sponsored by the Minister of Commerce and Hong Kong Trade and Development Bureau, the first Hong Kong-Mainland Service Trade Fair opened in Hong Kong Monday, July 16. Vice-Minister Yi Xiaozhun, Hong Kong SAR government Finance officer Tsang Chun-wah, Vice-Director of Central Government’s Coordinating Office in HKSAR Zhen Kunsheng, and Chairman of Hong Kong Trade and Development Bureau Lin Tianfu attended the opening ceremony.
In the Service Trade Development Forum after the opening ceremony, Yi Xiaozhun and Tsang Chun-wah made key-note speeches on the opportunities that Chinese service trade faces and the prospect of Hong Kong and mainland cooperation in service trade respectively. With the drastic structural transformation of global industry and the quickened pace of economic globalization, service trade has claimed an increasingly important position in international trade, Yi said. Hong Kong has a highly developed service trade, and is the most important service trade partner of the mainland. Presently, mainland economy is undergoing a large-scale structural upgrade. The central government is taking great efforts to change the pattern of foreign trade growth in order to guarantee its sustainable development, which makes the development of service trade more critical. Mainland has the demand in service trade, Hong Kong has the supply in service industry, and CEPA keeps working out new opportunities for the cooperation of the two sides. The central government attaches great importance to the development of service trade. In the years to come, the Minister of Commerce would provide more impetus for service trade development by further opening up the market, setting incentive policies, building general brands, and focusing on key regions.
As an international trade center, Hong Kong takes pride in her mature service industry, Tsang Chun-wah and Lin Tianfu said. The signing of the 4th Supplement to CEPA last month broadened the opening-up areas of mainland market to Hong Kong Service trade, and brought about more opportunities for the communication between mainland and Hong Kong service industry. The cooperation of the two sides would lead to a brighter future of Chinese foreign trade.
The fair was warmly received by mainland and Hong Kong enterprises and organizations concerned. More than 500 government and industry dignitaries attended the opening ceremony and the forum. During the fair, over 200 enterprises exchanged ideas on the development of service trade brand, service trade concerning traditional Chinese medicine, software and service outsourcing cooperation, logistic cooperation between Tianjin and Hong Kong, etc, and held one-to-one talks on software and service outsourcing, cosplay, logistic, design counseling, and technical licensing.
The fair would bring new opportunities for the development of mainland and Hong Kong service trade. The enterprises of both sides can take advantage of the platform provided by this fair and contribute to the growth of both mainland and Hong Kong service trade.
